Guillaume Henry’s perfectly charming pre-fall collection for French fashion house Carven is one that I could take in it’s entirety - every single piece - and fill my closet with. Unexpected colour combinations, artful textural pairings and unique cuts make wardrobe staples like skirt suits, fitted sheaths and the car coat, quirky and fresh. Styled with over-the-knee socks and sandals, Henry appeals to the creative yet practical working girl, showing the season-less wearability of the line. Oh Carven. J’adore.

The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier

During a recent trip to San Francisco, I made a point to take in The Fashion World of Jean Paul Gaultier: From the Sidewalk to the Catwalk at the de Young Museum. Three hours and 250+ photos later I walked out. The exhibit, initiated by the Montreal Museum of Fine Art, combined technology and craft, with video projected onto the sculpted, 3D mannequin heads. The effect was almost eery, with the faces of the Gaultier-clad mannequins brought to life with quirky, poetic expressions. Some were silent, while others would soliloquize or break into song.

The animated mannequins are cool, as are the video clips and prints, many of which were previously unreleased, highlighting Gaultier’s collaborations with various filmmakers, celebrities and photographers. But the fashion; 140 haute couture and prêt-à-porter designs from the mid-1970’s through 2010 by fashion’s ‘enfant terrible’. I was enamored with the intricate detail and sheer craftsmanship of the garments, some of which took over 1000 hours to create.

If you find yourself in San Francisco between now and August 19th, I recommend checking out this intimate peek inside the house of couture genius Jean Paul Gaultier.

i spy { grown up cut offs }

imageimageimageimage

We all have them. Those denim cut offs that fit perfectly. They’re not off the rack (let’s face it - most cut offs sold these days are not made with any sort of curves in mind), but DIY’d from your favorite pair of worn in jeans. Take a page from these stylish ladies and elevate your denim shorts. Pair them with a tucked in button down, statement car coat and classic flats, or my favorite combination - a basic tee and tailored blazer.

style { Hedvig Opshaug }

Name: Hedvig Opshaug
Occupation: Fashion blogger; former model
Style: Clean, minimalist
Signature: Juxtaposition of masculine-feminine

This is the first time I have featured a blogger as my bi-weekly stylish muse, but Norwegian-born Hedvig Opshaug of Northern Light is definitely worthy of recognition. My favorite style blog discovery of the year, Hedvig chronicles her chic, minimalistic fashion characteristic of highly-admired Scandinavian street style. Her ability to mix masculine pieces such as oversized jackets and ball caps with feminine skirts and accessories is insurmountable; an end result which is always polished and just plain pretty.

cobalt blue

Cobalt blue is quite simply the most universally flattering shade. Seriously; blonde, brunette or auburn, fair or olive - it works. This electric hue makes a statement, both as a part of your outfit, and your home. The perfect compliment for spring’s it-colour, tangerine, and a stunning pop against a basic black. I love the vibrant, blue chair which serves as a focal point amidst an otherwise neutral space above. Gorgeous.
