Summer has decided to stick around a little longer here in Vancouver (as it should, following it’s very late arrival!) But with warm, balmy afternoons and chilly mornings that still indicate fall is on it’s way, dressing for the day can be difficult. This is where transitional items such as light weight sweaters and jackets are key - layering them over summer dresses and rompers, and accessorizing with a stacked heel bootie and a manicure in a rich hue.

I should preface this by saying that I am not a makeup fanatic. While I appreciate it, and I make an effort to stay on top of beauty trends, it’s rare that I feel compelled to run out and try something new. Truth be told, my summer beauty essentials are not unlike my winter beauty picks, (swap the nail polish for darker, more neutral hues, and add a richer moisturizer to compensate for my dry, winter skin). I know which products I like, and they tend to inhabit my makeup bag year round.
I also want to take this time to emphasize how vitally important it is to wear a skin care product with SPF, not just in the summer but year round. If this is not already a part of your daily routine, it will be after watching “Dear sixteen year old me” - an effective campaign spreading awareness of Melanoma. Please, protect yourself and wear sunscreen!

Although I’m definitely the kind of girl you’re more likely to catch in a light, ruffly dress, feminine florals or a silk chiffon blouse, when I think of spring, there is definitely a short list of classics that I can’t do without. I feel as though at any point during the warm weather months I can be found wearing a variation of one of the above items - even if it’s just my staple Essie, “California Coral” pedicure, or chunky turquoise cocktail ring, both of which accent a sun-kissed glow perfectly.
